Escalon California, located in San Joaquin County in Central California, is dedicated to preserving its small town atmosphere and high quality of life. It's served by Highway 120 about 10 miles north of Modesto, 22 miles southeast of Stockton and 70 miles east of the San Francisco Bay Area.

The name San Joaquin comes from Joachim and has religious significance. Marago, a Spanish lieutenant, explored the "Valle de los Tulares" in 1813 and found a small stream that headed into the Sierra Nevadas and then emptied into Buena Vista Lake.

He named it San Joaquin. The stream's name was later used for the river and in turn was used for the name of the valley and county.
